You start everyday with having to make decisions, what am I going to wear, what to eat for breakfast, what do I need do today. Many decisions are made without thinking. You automatically make that decision based on your knowledge, experience or habit.Your decisions will be controlled by your beliefs and values. What is important to one person may not have any meaning to another.
Two people faced with the same decision, with different beliefs and values, will make different decisions. Some decisions are of utmost importance to your life, others are have little meaning whatsoever. What color of socks you wear will not change your life forever.
But your decision to try or use drugs will definitely have an affect on the rest of your life.Decisions should be made with wisdom. In the bible the book of Proverbs says you should seek wisdom and understanding. James says if any man lacks wisdom, to pray and ask for it.
The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. This means to understand God is in control of everything in the universe. He holds the next beat of your heart in his hand. He is able to build up or tear down.
Without him you can do nothing but with him you can do anything. When you are facing an important decision some of the questions you should ask is, how is God going to benefit if I do this, will this decision please God, and will this decision help me to be more like Jesus. This type of thinking will come when you have developed the ability to think from a spiritual perspective, this to comes from a decision.
You must decide you want to develop this way of thinking. God has given you his Holy Spirit to teach, comfort, convince and convict. You have to listen and be obedient to his bidding. You must die to self and be willing to follow his lead. What major decision are you facing? How will you approach that decision? Will you seek advice from a friend or a book? Will you make it based on your own understanding or desires?.Try this formula.
Is it scriptural? Is it possible? What is in it for God? Do I have peace about it?.Decisions made today will follow us into eternity. You can not change the decisions of yesterday but you can control the ones made today.
Make the right ones.
